I am an ICU doctor, husband, and father of four. I live, work, and write at the intersection of these identities.

I post on this website (see navigation above), and there’s more on Substack and Medium

Throughout my training, I have explored the humanity of medicine, through a combination of physician well-being work with others, and medical narrative writing myself.

After more than a decade working as an ICU doctor in an academic medical center, my writing is informed by my clinical expertise, experiences with patients, and experience with illness as a patient and family member.

In medical school, I debated becoming an ICU doctor or a psychologist. I was most passionate about the ICU, but promised my psychiatry professor that I would become a psychologically-minded intensivist.

I am also a clinical leader with experience in quality improvement and patient safety. I provide medicolegal consulting services for cases involving medical critical illness.
